The Government has this week announced its intention to simplify and speed up the planning process for smaller developers, including Biodiversity Net Gain requirements for minor developments of up to nine homes and a new "medium site" category of between 10 and 49 homes.
EnTrade has long championed better support for small or medium-sized (SME) developers, recognising their crucial role in local economies. Our nature markets were specifically designed to provide SME developers with easy access to Biodiversity Units and Nutrient Credits, enabling them to meet their environmental obligations while sharing costs with other developers.
In collaboration with local planning authorities (LPAs), such as Cornwall Council, we are working to support SME developers by enabling them to share the cost of Biodiversity Net Gain delivery alongside larger developers, utility companies, and businesses committed to environmental improvement.
By connecting suppliers of nature-based projects (such as farmers and landholders) with organisations requiring Biodiversity Units across multiple developments, EnTrade’s nature markets act as an aggregator. Through this system, developers can bid for fractional Biodiversity Units, ensuring accessibility and affordability.
While the Government is finalising its policy on Biodiversity Net Gain, EnTrade will continue to offer an immediate solution for developers of all sizes seeking Biodiversity Units in 2025. We can accommodate bids as small as 0.01 Biodiversity Units, making nature positive development more accessible than ever.
